Though not as uncommon as some other types of antelope, the hartebeest has some of the most interesting and unique horns in all of the animal kingdom. Bending around at an almost 90 degree angle, hartebeest shofarot present a particular challenge to produce as a result of the difficulty of removing the inner bone core. A combination of techniques on this horn have been used to remove its core, leaving a shofar with an impressively large hollow. Its sound is consequently both deep and immense, more akin to a large kudu shofar than to a ram's horn of a similar size.

As will all our shofarot, this peice is hand made and finished with a natural, oil-based coating. On this particular horn, a combination of beesewax, boiled linseed oil and vegetable oil has been used to get the best finish possible, while also keeping the shofar safe to play. We take care to boil all our horns before production to ensure they are fully sterile and take every precaution to make sure they are 100% kosher.

Our signature natural finish retains the beauty of the horn while keeping it still somewhat smooth to the touch. Unlike other, mirror polished shofarot, you can see the grain, the imperfections, the ridges and valleys on every one of our horns.
